A man from Batley has been sentenced to six years in prison after £850,000 of illegal cash was found concealed in secret compartments of a van attempting to travel go through the Channel Tunnel.
Faisal Khan, 27, of Grafton Street, Batley, was stopped by police in January at the Folkestone terminal, and searched his blue Ford van.
According to reports by Kent police, the illegally obtained banknotes were found hidden in parts of the vehicle.
Upon the discovery of the cash, Khan initially denied any knowledge of it being there.
However, he later pleaded guilty to money laundering charges and was sentenced to six years in prison following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday.
Speaking on the incident, Detective Inspector Shaun Creed said: "The money seized from his van will now be subject to a forfeiture application under the Proceeds of Crime Act, which, if successful, will mean the money is re-invested into policing."
