Rajkummar Rao’s political satire remains rock steady, rakes in Rs 17.59 crore

Rajkummar Rao‘s Newton is easily one of the most unusual films of 2017.

While the film didn’t garner much buzz prior to the release, it has been declared a clear winner ever since it hit theatres.

What makes this victory even sweeter is that it managed to race ahead of Sanjay Dutt’s Bhoomi and Shraddha Kapoor’s Haseena Parkar that released on the same day.

The film has raked in a whopping Rs 11.83 crore. The four-day weekend proved advantageous not only for Judwaa 2 but also for Newton. It started off with 91 lakhs on Friday, that increased to Rs 1.66 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, it further increased to Rs 1.75 crore. As it entered the second week, the film continued to remain rock steady as it earned Rs 1.44 on a Monday

Despite a big release like Judwaa the film has maintained its hold at the box office. The performances, the story and unusual plot are some of the major reasons Newton has found an audience.
