Sunrise Radio has been named a finalist for Radio Station of the Year at the 2026 Asian Media Awards, as the station approaches 37 years of broadcasting.
Sunrise Radio has been shortlisted as a finalist for Radio Station of the Year at the Asian Media Awards 2026.
The annual awards celebrate achievement across Asian broadcasting, journalism, digital media and the wider creative industries in the UK.
Although the awards shortlist identifies the entry as “Sunrise Radio Yorkshire,” the station now broadcasts considerably beyond its traditional Yorkshire heartland.
From its Bradford base, Sunrise Radio can be heard across West Yorkshire and parts of North Yorkshire, East Lancashire, Manchester, Milton Keynes and, most recently, West London, alongside its online, mobile app and smart-speaker services.
The nomination comes during another period of expansion and development for Sunrise Radio, which first began broadcasting in December 1989 and will celebrate 37 years on air this December.
Over the past year, the station has continued to expand its DAB+ coverage, launched in West London, redesigned its website and introduced new interactive digital features and games for listeners.
Sunrise has also reported growth across its digital platforms, while continuing to serve listeners through FM and DAB+.
Raj Parmar, Director of Sunrise Radio, said:
“Being shortlisted for Radio Station of the Year is a fantastic recognition for the whole Sunrise Radio family. We have continued to evolve and expand while remaining focused on the listeners and communities who have supported us for almost 37 years.
“Sunrise today reaches far beyond Yorkshire, with our FM, DAB+, online, app and smart-speaker services bringing us to listeners across an ever-growing part of the UK. To have that work recognised by the Asian Media Awards means a great deal to all of us.”
Usha Parmar, Director of Sunrise Radio, added:
“Sunrise Radio has always been about our listeners and our community. Nearly 37 years after we first went on air, it is wonderful to see the station continuing to grow, reach new audiences and embrace new technology.
“We are incredibly grateful to our presenters, staff, advertisers and, most importantly, our listeners. This nomination belongs to the entire Sunrise Radio family.”
The Asian Media Awards ceremony takes place later this month, when the winner of Radio Station of the Year will be announced.
For Sunrise Radio, the finalist recognition comes as the station prepares to mark another major broadcasting milestone — 37 years on air in December 2026.
