Indian cinema is mourning the death of acclaimed actor Nana Patekar, known for his powerful performances in films including Krantiveer, Parinda and Welcome.
Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75, prompting tributes from across the Indian film industry.
According to Reuters, the actor was found unconscious at his home in Goa on Thursday morning, 8 October. He could not be revived, and Manipal Hospital confirmed cardiac arrest as the cause of death.
Born Vishwanath Patekar in Maharashtra, he began his acting career in Marathi theatre before establishing himself as one of Indian cinema's most recognisable performers.
Patekar became particularly admired for his commanding screen presence, distinctive dialogue delivery and ability to move between intense dramatic roles and comedy.
His career included acclaimed performances in Parinda, Krantiveer, Salaam Bombay! and the hugely popular comedy Welcome.
Bollywood pays tribute
Actor Akshay Kumar, who worked with Patekar in Welcome, was among those paying tribute following the news of his death.
Kumar expressed sadness at the loss of his former co-star, remembering his distinctive talent and personality.
Patekar received numerous honours during his career and leaves behind a legacy spanning Marathi and Hindi cinema.
His death marks the loss of one of Bollywood's most distinctive and respected performers.
