A ‘hobbit house’ in West Yorkshire has been granted listed status.
The property, aptly named Underhill, is Britain’s first modern earth-sheltered home and is nestled into rolling green moorland near Holmfirth. The house features observation domes and even has a swimming pool.
It has been added to the National Heritage List for England to mark 70 years of protecting England’s historic buildings, along with a cabman’s shelter in London and a wireless station in Stockton-On-Tees used for intelligence gathering in the First World War.
Fanatics of Tolkien’s hobbits will be happy to know Underhill, built in 1975, is currently empty and on the market with an asking price of £700,000.
