A woman has been arrested after a suspected attempted robbery involving a knife left a woman in her 60s injured in north Manchester.
A woman has been arrested following a suspected attempted robbery involving a knife in Cheetham Hill.
Police were called to Larch Gardens at around 4.25pm on Saturday 6 June following reports of an attempted handbag robbery.
A woman in her 60s suffered a wound to her hand during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police say she is in a stable condition but remains understandably shaken.
Greater Manchester Police said a 40-year-old woman of Pakistani ethnicity was restrained by members of the public before officers arrived and arrested her within minutes.
She remains in custody on suspicion of assault, robbery and possession of a bladed article.
The victim's handbag was not stolen.
Detectives believe there may have been a second suspect involved, and officers continue to carry out enquiries and patrols in the area to locate her.
Police have stated that they do not believe the incident was motivated by race or religion.
Detective Superintendent Sarah Harris thanked members of the public who helped detain the suspect and said officers were continuing to support the victim and investigate the full circumstances of the incident.
