The world famous Flying Scotsman steam locomotive passed through Keighley today (31.03.2017) to celebrate the reopening of the Carlisle-Settle line.
Crowds packed the platforms of Keighley station for the rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of the historic steam engine. The line from Settle to Carlisle had been closed since February of last year due to subsidence on the track.
Waiting on the platform, Government Railway Minister, MP Paul Maynard, said: "It's very good to see this locomotive in Keighley, this doesn't happen very often so it's an exciting day. The reopening of the Settle to Carlisle line is critical in my view, as it's a highly symbolic line and a vital artery. It's £23 million well spent. This is an excellent example of the Government’s vision for the future of our busy rail network – one that is run by an integrated team of people with a commitment to improving services for the benefit of passengers.”
