Alison Riley,Linda Lathwood and Wendy Whiteley Taylor are the three women who created a project whereby bereaved mums at Tamesides, St Mary’s and Stepping Hill hospitals are given an ‘angel’ gown in which to dress their babies before they say goodbye.
Made from donated wedding dresses, the gowns are hand-stitched by volunteers.
More than 100 brides have given their wedding dresses, including one who walked down the aisle last week. Their oldest donation was worn in 1960.
Volunteer seamstresses work for free, washing and unpicking each wedding dress, then hand-making several gowns from each garment. They send a heart memento of the dress to each bride, with a photo of the gowns her donation has created.
In the eight months since "Glossopdale Angel Gowns" launched, the project has already inspired a woman in Dublin to launch an Irish branch.
