A man was attacked with an axe and machete in a robbery in Gee Cross.
Shortly after midnight on Saturday 28 May 2016, four offenders broke in to a house on Joel Lane via a side door.
Two of the offenders threatened a woman, 68, in the hallway and demanded money. They took a Rolex watch from her by force.
The other two offenders went upstairs and attacked a man, 68, with a machete and an axe causing a deep cut to his hand. They hit the man on the back of the head with an axe causing a deep laceration. During the attack the man also suffered a punctured lung. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.
During the robbery, the offenders took the keys to a white Alfa Romeo Mito and made off in the car.
Police are appealing for information and witnesses.
Detective Inspector Richard Ennis from Tameside Division said: “This was a particularly violent robbery that has left a man with serious injuries. He remains in hospital for treatment and is currently in a stable condition.
“We are in the early stages of our investigation and beginning to piece together what happened. We would ask if anyone has any information that they call us.
“The car was possibly driven off at speed and has not been recovered so we would ask if anyone remembers seeing an Alfa Romeo Mito in white or cream driving in the area in the early hours of the morning that they contact police. Alternatively, the car may have been parked up somewhere or abandoned so if you have seen a car matching this description that isn’t normally there please get in touch.”
Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 9309, 101, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
