Two bodies have been found inside a disused building after a large fire broke out in Manchester's Chinatown.
Firefighters continue to damp down at the incident in Nicholas Street and make the building safe for further searches and investigations.
Shortly after 2.15am this morning (Friday 25 November 2016) police were called to reports of a fire in a disused building on Nicholas Street.
Following a search by firefighters from GMFRS, the bodies of two people were found.
Officers are currently at the scene and a joint investigation with the fire service has been launched to establish the cause.
Chief Inspector Gareth Parkin, from GMP’s city centre team, said: “These are tragic circumstances and we working to identify the men who were found in the building.”
“A joint investigation with GMFRS is in its early stages and we will be carrying out a number of enquiries to establish how this fire started.”
“I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to please call us.”
