Tributes from across Bradford’s Communities have been paid to a well-respected Bradford businessman and community stalwart F D Farooqi who has died at the age of 97
Mr Farooqi – a largely self-taught man - began his working life in Bradford, employed at a Foundry, then as a waiter before saving up to open his own place, the Commonwealth Restaurant but then 40 years ago Mr Farooqi set up Ali Baba Carpets and the family run business has grown from strength to strength. The family-run business has seen three generations work within the company which has become a household name across West Yorkshire. As well as succeeding in business Mr Farooqi was honoured by the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) for his services for the party and was well known for his forthright views and passionate love for Pakistan. Over the years he hosted visits from Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Begum Nusrat Bhutto. He is survived by his 7 children, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be on Friday 10th June after Jumma at the Madni Mosque, Newton Street, Bradford BD5
