Three people have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences following two linked incidents in the Castleford area.
They were arrested this morning (21 March) from addresses in Castleford on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
The arrests follow the discharge of a firearm at a vehicle on Airedale Road, Castleford, shortly before 3.15pm yesterday afternoon and criminal damage to another vehicle, which was parked and unattended, in Kershaw Avenue, Castleford. This damage is believed to have been caused sometime between 3pm and 4pm.
West Yorkshire Police have confirmed both vehicles were owned by the same victim.
Detective Inspector Dan Tillett, of Wakefield District CID, said: “We are linking these two incidents which are being treated as targeted attacks. No-one was harmed in either incident but clearly any discharge of a firearm is taken extremely seriously.
“We are aware of concerns in the wider community and would like to reassure people that we have taken swift action, resulting in a number of arrests, and are satisfied that there is no risk to the wider public at this time.
