Four 13 year old girls were hospitalised after experimenting with a new strand of ecstasy tablets known on the streets as “Teddy Bear”.
Manchester police officials have confirmed the drug is very quickly becoming popular with young adults and Initial enquiries suggest they are being distributed by young people to young people.
After questioning the girls the police believe they took the pills near the Wythenshawe Civic Centre in Manchester on Sunday evening. On this occasion none of the girls have suffered any fatal injuries and have been discharged from the Hospital to recover at home.
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying the Class A drug.
Det Insp Gareth Davies said "We know these pills are dangerous but we are yet to establish exactly what ingredients these drugs contain. They could have caused devastation for several families. If you are offered drugs, particularly ones which are a pink and purple colour and have teddy bear markings on them, please contact the police immediately."
