World, European and Commonwealth medallist Jo Pavey joined a panel of guests in Leeds to discuss child protection during Parents in Sport Week.
This year the focus for the week is highlighting the valuable role parents play – and the positive influence they have – in ensuring young people develop to their full potential and enjoy their time playing sport.
The panel discussion at Leeds’ Aspire will explore the role the NSPCC has had since the first high profile cases of abuse in sport hit the press in the 1990s, through to the present day and the focus on ‘Duty of Care’ and the role parents can have in safeguarding at the grassroots level.
Jo Pavey said: “I am delighted to be taking part as my running career has given me a platform to speak from and motherhood has fuelled me with the passion to do what I can to help. It is so important that we include parents in debates about child protection in sport given the influence parents have not only on grassroots clubs but in inspiring their youngsters to become the sporting stars of the future.”
