A rogue waste collector has been ordered to pay more than £600, after being found guilty of fly-tipping in Northenden.
William O’Donnell admitted fly-tipping at Manchester Magistrates Court. The case was one of two recent prosecutions which saw residents help Manchester City Council’s Environmental Crimes team secure convictions for the illegal dumping of waste.
In January 2017, council officers responded to reports of fly-tipping on Willenhall Road, Northenden and found that a large fridge, filled with more than ten black bin bags of general waste and with a carpet placed on top, had been dumped in the road.
A south Manchester resident was interviewed and told investigators that they had paid £70 to a 'Man with a Van' to dispose of their waste. The resident provided the registration of the vehicle, which was linked to O’Donnell.
In a separate prosecution, Ms Rahimo Mahamud, 50, of Kippax Street, Moss Side was taken to court for dumping a number of bags of general waste into an alley behind her property.
She was fined a total of £741.
