Following the historic moment yesterday (15 May) – when over 300 radio stations in the UK united to play the Mental Health Minute broadcast simultaneously – research has been released revealing the state of mental health amongst young people.
The survey, commissioned by the Mental Health Foundation, found that six out of ten young people aged 18 – 24 have felt so stressed by pressure to succeed they have felt unable to cope.
The study also found that almost half of young people (47 per cent) had experienced significant stress in relation to body image and worries about their appearance.
A further four out of ten (39 percent) young people said they had experienced suicidal feelings as a result of stress.
The Mental Health Foundation is asking for all young people to receive mental health education at all schools to promote their wellbeing and resilience.
