Firefighters and partners agencies have been praised for their joint efforts to tackle a fire at Peckfield Landfill in Micklefield which started last Saturday (8th October).
It’s now six days on since the deep seated fire began.
Fire crews have been monitoring the site around the clock to ensure the safety of the general public. Although the agencies involved will be keeping a close eye on conditions at the site over the weekend, it no longer requires a 24/7 attendance. Fire crews left the site around midday on 13th October.
It is anticipated that the incident will be fully closed by the Fire Service on Monday. Assistant District Commander Lee Benson has praised all the staff working at the incident. He said: “On behalf of West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue I would like to commend not only our firefighters, but also our partners who have all put in a tremendous amount of work, effort and resources, to be able to bring this particular incident to a close."
