A man was arrested after an officer was dragged along with a moving car as she attempted to stop a carjacking in Prestwich.
At around 11.15pm on Wednesday 16 May Greater Manchester Police received a report that two men had gone into a house party and threatened people inside at knife-point.
They then left the house and assaulted a takeaway driver nearby, before driving off in his car.
Police arrived at the scene and saw the stolen vehicle had returned, so the officer and some members of the public tried to stop the occupants from leaving the car.
As the officer reached in through the open door to remove the keys, the driver reversed the car, dragging her along and knocking her to the floor.
The car then fled from the scene and was later found abandoned in Cheetham Hill.
Specialist support from the K-9 unit was brought in and a police dog tracked one of the offenders to George Street where he was detained.
The other offender, described as an Asian man in his late 20s, of a medium build, around 5ft 6ins tall with straight hair on the top that is short at the side and stubble, is still outstanding.
The officer was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to her hands and feet but has since been released.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault.
Detective inspector John Stainton of GMP’s Bury borough, said: “This officer did not hesitate to do everything in her power to stop the offender, but instead, the driver chose to reverse the stolen car causing her harm.
“We have a man in custody but our enquiries to find out what exactly happened remain ongoing – the offenders threatened and hurt innocent members of the public, and caused real distress to people who live in this area.”
