Free Fireworks Displays to Return to Manchester Parks

Free family-friendly fireworks events are returning to three Manchester parks this November, with reduced-noise displays, lantern parades and main evening shows planned.

Free fireworks celebrations are set to return to Manchester this autumn, with three of the city's parks hosting major displays.

Events will take place at Wythenshawe Park, Heaton Park and Platt Fields Park on Saturday, 7 November.

Each location will hold a reduced-noise, low-impact fireworks display at 5pm, designed particularly for families with young children and people with special educational needs and disabilities.

The main fireworks displays will then take place at 8pm.

Lantern-making workshops are also planned at all three parks in the weeks leading up to the celebrations, followed by family-friendly lantern parades ahead of the main evening displays.

Manchester City Council says further entertainment for each location will be announced in the coming weeks.

Major council-run fireworks events in Manchester have not taken place for several years, with the authority instead investing in smaller community-focused activities across city parks.

Those local events will continue and are expected to expand this autumn, particularly around the October half-term holidays. The three fireworks celebrations will then act as a finale to the programme.

Councillor Garry Bridges, Leader of Manchester City Council, said the free events would give families, friends and neighbours an opportunity to come together without cost being a barrier.

He also highlighted the earlier reduced-noise displays, saying inclusivity for families with young children and people with SEND had been an important part of planning the celebrations.

Councillor Basat Sheikh, Executive Member for Neighbourhoods, said the council wanted its parks to provide shared spaces where Manchester communities could gather.

All three fireworks events will be free to attend.
