Bradford Woman Jailed After Committing Burglary Just 14 Days After Suspended Sentence

A 19-year-old Bradford woman has been jailed for more than three years after committing another burglary only a fortnight after avoiding an immediate prison sentence.

A Bradford woman has been jailed for three years and two months after committing another burglary just 14 days after receiving a suspended prison sentence.

Viktoria Keselova, 19, of Brooksbank Avenue, Clayton, had appeared at Bradford Crown Court last month and received a 30-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for a series of sneak-in house burglaries and shop thefts.

But Bradford Crown Court heard that just two weeks later, Keselova forced a lock at a multi-occupancy flat in Southfield Lane, Canterbury, and stole property belonging to three residents.

One resident woke to discover the flat had been disturbed and items including passports, bank cards, mobile phones and a laptop had been taken.

Keselova was captured on CCTV breaking into the property. A few days later, one of the residents spotted her hiding behind nearby bins and contacted police.

She was subsequently arrested and admitted the burglary when she appeared before magistrates.

At Bradford Crown Court, Recorder Tom Little KC activated 24 months of Keselova's previous suspended sentence and imposed a further 14 months for the latest burglary, producing a total sentence of 38 months in custody.

The court heard Keselova had been using crystal meth and had relapsed into offending to fund her drug use before she had begun receiving help and support from the probation service.

Her barrister, Oliver Norman, said Keselova was sorry for her offending, wanted to change and hoped not to return to crime following her release.

Recorder Little told Keselova that when her previous sentence was suspended she had only just avoided being sent immediately to prison.
