Two Arrested in Bradford Historical Child Abuse Investigation

Detectives investigating allegations of historical child sexual abuse at a former Bradford Council-run children’s home have arrested a man and a woman.

Two people have been arrested as part of an ongoing police investigation into allegations of historical child sexual abuse at a former children’s home in Bradford.

A 63-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were arrested at addresses in Bradford and Manchester on 10 September.

Both have since been released on police bail while further enquiries are carried out.

The investigation follows reports made by five adults — two men and three women — who allege they were sexually abused while living at a Bradford Council-run care home during the 1980s and 1990s.

Police say those who have come forward were aged between seven and 16 at the time of the alleged offences.

The facility was formerly known as Saxton Avenue Children’s Home, on Saxton Avenue in Bradford. It was renamed The Acres in 2014 and has since closed.

Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Chantel Markham, of Bradford District Police, said the arrests formed part of the force’s continuing commitment to investigate both current and historical sexual offences against children.

She said safeguarding children remained a top priority and urged anyone who had experienced sexual abuse, regardless of how long ago it happened, to contact police.

Officers are also appealing directly to anyone with information about incidents at the former children’s home during the 1980s and 1990s to contact police on 101.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been announced.
