A councillor is calling for a new bus service across western Milton Keynes, arguing public transport needs to keep pace with significant housing growth.
Calls have been made for a new bus route linking rapidly growing communities across the west of Milton Keynes.
The proposed service would connect Stony Stratford, Fairfields, Whitehouse, Hazeley, Oxley Park and Westcroft, providing new links between neighbourhoods which have experienced significant housebuilding.
Councillor Kunal Puri, who represents Watling, has submitted a motion to Milton Keynes City Council calling for public transport provision to keep pace with the area's expansion.
The motion highlights housing growth in communities including Whitehouse, Fairfields, Oxley Park, Kingsmead, Tattenhoe Park and Hazeley, with further development continuing.
However, it says many residents have limited direct public transport connections to important destinations including schools, healthcare facilities, workplaces, shops and leisure facilities.
Concerns have also been raised about the availability, frequency and connectivity of existing services, particularly for people living in Whitehouse and Fairfields.
Councillor Puri argues that reliable public transport is especially important for young people, older residents, disabled people and households without access to a car.
The motion also says improved bus connections could help reduce congestion and reliance on private vehicles while encouraging more sustainable travel and improving air quality.
The proposal will now be considered by Milton Keynes City Council.
