Police are appealing for information after an 80-year-old man was conned out of £10,000 in Moss Side.
Between 1.15pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday 15 June 2016, the man was approached by two other men on Moss Lane East.
One of the men told him he had won £500,000 on the lottery but he did not have a bank account so told the victim that he would share it with him if he gave him £10,000.
All three men drove to the victim’s home address to collect his passport and bank card before driving to the Natwest bank on Wilmslow Road, Didsbury where he withdrew £5,000.
The two men then drove the victim to his home address in Didsbury where he took another £5,000 and returned to the car.
All three drove down to Withington because one of the men claimed to need to go to a chemist but he told the victim he could not collect the medication because he was under 50.
The victim went inside a chemist with £5 from one of the men and the lottery ticket for security but when he returned the car and cash were gone.
He later tried to claim the money on the ticket but found it was fake.
One man is described as Asian, well-built and in his 30’s. The second man is described as Asian, of slim build, aged around 50 and wearing an old beige suit.
Detective Constable Lucia Barnes, of GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “This was a shameless swindling of a vulnerable 80-year-old man.
“We would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time that saw these two men and may have information that could help us with our investigation.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
