Police appeal for information following the death of a man found seriously injured in Burmantofts, Leeds, and the arrest of a 51-year-old on suspicion of murder.
Police in Leeds have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Burmantofts earlier this week.
Officers were called at 8:14am on Thursday 1 January 2026 to reports of suspicious circumstances outside Gargrave Court, where it was alleged that a man had attacked another man who was lying on the ground.
On arrival, police found a man with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later.
After initial enquiries at the scene, a 51-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is leading the investigation. Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
Detective Inspector Jodie Hayes said the incident will understandably cause concern locally, and that neighbourhood officers are patrolling the area to reassure residents. She urged anyone with information to get in touch.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police via 101 or online live chat quoting log reference 0709 of 1 January. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
