A man who subjected a woman to a vicious sexual assault before leaving her for dead has been sentenced for a series of offences.
At Stafford Crown Court Vijay Singh, 43, of Oxford Street, Leicester, was given an indeterminate life sentence and will remain on the Sex Offender’s Register for life.
He was found guilty of attempted murder and sexual assault by penetration following an eight day trial in May.
He carried out the attack last year, at a premises in King Street, Leicester, leaving the victim with multiple injuries.
Singh fled the scene with Balbir Singh, 50, of Thurcaston Road, Leicester.
Balbir Singh was convicted of assisting an offender and sentenced to two years imprisonment.
Detective Sergeant 4125 Sarah Walker, the investigating officer, said: “The victim has shown immense bravery and courage throughout the investigation.
“It was an incredibly distressing experience for her and she has had to relive the attack in order to assist officers to piece together the events of that night and ultimately bring those responsible to justice.”
