Greater Manchester Police are appealing for information after two men were seriously injured during an attack while they waited in a van at traffic lights.
Between 8.45pm and 9pm on Sunday 23 September, three men were waiting in a silver van at the junction of Wellington Road and Cavendish Street, Ashton-under-Lyne – close to Ikea.
What’s believed to be a dark coloured vehicle pulled up behind them and two or three men got out the vehicle and began to attack them.
The altercation spilled over into a supermarket car park, where one man was struck on the head with an unknown implement.
The other was hit with an unknown sharp object, causing two puncture wounds to his chest and back.
The attackers then fled and the victims drove to hospital.
The man with puncture wounds is still receiving hospital treatment for the injuries he sustained.
One offender is described as white, aged in his late 30s, of medium build with very short cropped hair and a short shaven beard. He was wearing a pink t-shirt.
Another offender is described as white, in his late 30s, of average build and was wearing all black clothing.
Detective Constable Lee Maiden of GMP’s Tameside Division said: “This was a shocking attack and we understand the concern that an incident like this will cause.
“Officers believe this was an isolated incident and are conducting numerous lines of enquiry.
“We are treating the attack as attempted murder and want to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, perhaps has dashcam footage, or has any information, to contact police.”
