A Manchester company that breached numerous fire regulations has been ordered to pay more than £65,000 in fines and court costs.
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority prosecuted the T&A Textiles & Hosiery company for putting its workers at risk at its warehouse in Newton Heath, which led to sentencing at Manchester Crown Court.
An inspection of the site in July 2014 revealed that there was no working fire alarm, that all emergency exits were either locked or blocked and that there were no clear walkways for workers to escape.
Peter O’Reilly, County Fire Officer and Chief Executive, claimed: “This is one of the worst cases of fire safety failings we have seen. A fire in this building in 2014 had the potential to cause multiple fatalities.”
