Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in the neck on a Metrolink tram in Beswick.
At around 6.50am on Saturday 8 October 2016, a 36-year-old man was travelling on the Ashton-bound tram near to Beswick when he became embroiled in an argument with another passenger.
The offender sliced the victim’s neck with a knife and then ran off the tram at the Velopark stop.
The man was left with serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition. His injuries are not life-threatening.
The offender is described as black, between 35 and 45-years-old, stocky build, around 5ft 4in tall with a shaven head.
He was with a woman, who is described as white, with long, dark hair in a ponytail.
She was wearing a short black skirt, a black top and black wedge heels.
Inspector Steve Griffin said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack, which has left this man with very serious cuts to his face and neck.”
“It is only good fortune that prevented this man from suffering potentially life-threatening injuries, because if this knife had cut an artery I would dread to think what the result could have been.”
