A man required surgery after he was stabbed in Bolton town centre.
Shortly before 5.40am on Saturday 16 December, police were called to Nelson Square by a member of the public to reports that his friend had been stabbed.
He had taken the 23-year-old to hospital for treatment after discovering he had lost a large amount of blood due to multiple wounds.
Witness reports have suggested that shortly after the stabbing, a man dressed in dark clothing ran along Bradshawgate towards Nelson Square. He is described as a black man, in his mid-20s to 30s.
