A man was shot during a large-scale disturbance in Bolton.
At around 8.15pm on Sunday 20 May police were called to Castle Street to reports of a disturbance involving around 30 men.
A further call reported that a man had been shot, however it wasn’t until 9.10pm that police received a call from the Royal Bolton Hospital confirming that a man had been admitted with a gunshot wound. He is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Later in the evening at 11.30pm police were called to Russell Street in Bolton to reports of fighting and a gun being fired into the air.
Officers have launched an investigation and are treating the incidents as linked.
No arrests have yet been made.
Detective Inspector Clark Bowers from GMP’s Bolton Borough said: “Last night my officers found themselves dealing with two large fights where guns were used. One man is receiving treatment in hospital, thankfully his injuries are not more serious.
“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the fighting or knows anything about what lead to both incidents to get in touch as soon as possible.
“I would like to reassure the community that we are doing all that we can to establish the circumstances surrounding these incidents and find those responsible.
“We will have and increased number of officers on the streets and I would like to encourage anyone with any concerns to come and talk to the officers.”
