A man who has volunteered with a safer driving charity for over 50 years has been given an award by Greater Manchester Police.
Hugh German, 86 from Bolton will be presented with Chief Constable’s Citizen’s Commendation after serving as a volunteer with the Institute of Advanced Motorists since 1966. The community spirited, former Scouts leader helped to set up the Bolton branch of the group in 1970 and since then has served as treasurer, auditor, event organiser, publicity officer and Chairman.
Still serving as an active member, the former teacher is now in his 51st year of volunteering and attends classes each week without fail in the role of observer.
He will be presented with the Chief Constable’s Citizens Commendation for his years of volunteering at a ceremony at GMP’s Hough End Complex.
Deputy Chief Constable Ian Pilling for Greater Manchester Police, said: “Hugh epitomises community spirit. His years of volunteering for such a worthwhile service have no doubt contributed to making the roads of Greater Manchester a safer place for everyone and for that I would like to say, thank you.”
