A 36-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing at Angel Central shopping centre in Islington, where two other men were shot during the same incident. One shooting victim suffered life-changing injuries, while police continue searching for the gunman.
A man has been charged with attempted murder following a violent incident at a busy North London shopping centre which left three people injured, including two men who suffered gunshot wounds.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that a 36-year-old man was stabbed during the incident at Angel Central shopping centre in Islington on Tuesday, 27 October 2026.
The violence erupted shortly before 10.30pm, while crowds were attending separate concerts at the neighbouring O2 Academy Islington.
Police initially reported that two men had been shot, but have now confirmed that a third man suffered stab wounds during the same incident.
Three men injured in shopping centre violence
Emergency services attended Angel Central following reports of violence.
Two men, aged 27 and 33, were discovered with gunshot wounds.
Police confirmed that the 33-year-old suffered injuries described as life-changing.
Detectives have since established that a 36-year-old man was also stabbed during the incident.
His injuries were assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.
The circumstances surrounding the violence remain under investigation.
Man charged with attempted murder
Eugene Asiedu, 36, of Hatcham Park Road in Lewisham, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife or bladed article in connection with the stabbing.
He was arrested on Sunday, 1 November, and charged ahead of an appearance scheduled at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 3 November.
The supplied report does not confirm the outcome of that hearing.
The charges relate to allegations which have not yet been proven in court.
Meanwhile, detectives are continuing their investigation into the separate shooting offences committed during the same incident.
Police continue search for gunman
The Metropolitan Police are still working to identify and locate the person responsible for shooting the two men.
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing across Camden and Islington, condemned the violence.
He said:
"This was an incredibly reckless incident in a busy area close to a major venue and no doubt caused significant fear among members of the public."
He added that violence had no place in local communities and that officers were pursuing every available line of enquiry to identify those involved.
Shopping centre closed for more than 12 hours
Following the incident, police established a large cordon around Angel Central shopping centre.
Access was restricted from Liverpool Road, Upper Street and Parkfield Street as detectives carried out their investigations.
The shopping centre remained cordoned off for more than 12 hours.
Photographs taken at the scene showed police tape surrounding the building and medical equipment near the Liverpool Road entrance.
Some concertgoers reported being temporarily kept inside the neighbouring music venue while emergency services responded.
Residents shocked by violence
People living in the Angel area have expressed concern about the incident, which happened in a normally busy shopping and entertainment destination.
One resident, Anthony, who has lived locally for 15 years, told MyLondon he was shocked that such violence had occurred inside the shopping centre.
He said:
"I'm concerned about gun crime in London but I know Islington. I didn't think it would happen in this vicinity."
Another long-term resident, aged 70, said the incident had added to her concerns about personal safety.
The violence follows several other serious shooting incidents reported across London in recent weeks, although police have not indicated that these cases are connected.
Investigation continues
Detectives are continuing enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and stabbing.
While one man has been charged in connection with the stabbing, the gunman responsible for injuring the other two victims remains unidentified in the latest published report.
Police have urged anyone with relevant information to assist their investigation.
