Lamborghini Crash Driver Arrested at Hospital After Missing Sentencing

A Bradford woman convicted of causing her friend's death in a 140mph Lamborghini crash on the M62 has been arrested at hospital after failing to attend her sentencing hearing. Humaira Batool, 26, has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced today (3 November).

A Bradford woman convicted of causing the death of her friend in a high-speed Lamborghini crash has been arrested at hospital after failing to appear at Leeds Crown Court for sentencing.

Humaira Batool, 26, was due to be sentenced on Monday, 2 November, after being found guilty of causing the death of 20-year-old Mohammed Shaan Hussain by dangerous driving.

However, she failed to attend the hearing, with her barrister explaining that she had gone to accident and emergency following a flare-up of endometriosis.

Prosecutor Christopher Dunn challenged the explanation, describing her hospital attendance as "clearly a ruse".

Judge Ray Singh issued a warrant for Batool's arrest, stating that she was avoiding being dealt with by the court.

She was subsequently arrested at hospital and brought before the judge later that day.

Judge describes failure to attend as unforgivable

Batool arrived at Leeds Crown Court on crutches following her arrest.

Judge Singh criticised her failure to attend the original hearing, describing her actions as "unforgivable".

He said correspondence received over the weekend had suggested she was unlikely to appear.

The judge also highlighted the impact on the family of Mr Hussain, who had attended court expecting to hear the sentence.

He told Batool:

"For you to have deliberately, in my view, got to a position where you weren't going to attend this morning is unforgivable. The deceased's family are here."

Prosecutor raises questions over social media photographs

During the hearing, prosecutor Christopher Dunn referred to photographs obtained from social media showing Batool, who operates a beauty business, attending a beauty event.

The photographs reportedly showed her wearing a ballgown and high heels in the weeks before her trial.

Dunn questioned the contrast between those images and Batool's appearance at court on crutches during her trial.

He told the court that she had appeared to struggle to enter the dock despite having been photographed wearing high heels shortly beforehand.

Remanded in custody ahead of sentencing

Judge Singh considered whether Batool should be granted bail overnight or remanded in custody.

He concluded there was a significant risk she would fail to attend court again if released.

Batool was therefore remanded in custody.

She is now due to be sentenced today (Tuesday, 3 November 2026).

No prison sentence has yet been imposed.

Fatal Lamborghini crash on M62

The case follows a fatal collision on the M62 near Ripponden, West Yorkshire, on 21 December 2022.

Batool was driving a rented Lamborghini Urus at speeds exceeding 140mph in wet conditions when she lost control.

The supercar struck a motorway barrier and caught fire.

Her passenger, 20-year-old Mohammed Shaan Hussain, died in the collision.

Batool was subsequently prosecuted and found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving following a trial in September 2026.

The latest court proceedings concern her failure to attend sentencing, subsequent arrest and decision to remand her in custody.

Her sentencing hearing is expected to take place at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday.
