A 26-year-old Bradford woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after causing the death of her 20-year-old passenger in a high-speed crash on the M62. Humaira Batool reached speeds of up to 143mph in a hired Lamborghini Urus before losing control in wet conditions, killing Mohammed Shaan Hussain.
A Bradford woman who drove a Lamborghini at speeds of up to 143mph before crashing and killing her passenger has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Humaira Batool, 26, from the Bankfoot area of Bradford, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, after being convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.
The crash claimed the life of 20-year-old Mohammed Shaan Hussain, who was travelling as a passenger in the hired Lamborghini Urus.
Lamborghini travelling at up to 143mph
During Batool's trial in September, Leeds Crown Court heard that she had taken a turn driving the high-performance vehicle during the early hours of 21 December 2022.
At approximately 4.20am, while travelling westbound on the M62 between junctions 22 and 23, Batool lost control of the Lamborghini in wet weather conditions.
The vehicle struck a motorway barrier, overturned and caught fire.
Emergency services attended the scene and discovered Batool had suffered serious leg injuries.
Tragically, Mr Hussain sustained fatal injuries in the collision.
A detailed investigation was subsequently launched by West Yorkshire Police's Major Collision Enquiry Team.
Batool was later arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving in January 2024.
Following her conviction in September 2026, she was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment.
Family devastated by loss of 20-year-old
In a moving statement presented to the court, Shaan's mother, Nasreen, described the devastating impact of losing her son.
She said:
"My son was the heartbeat of this home. To lose him suddenly in this horror crash has broken us in ways we cannot put into words."
Nasreen described Shaan as a beloved son, cherished brother and loyal friend whose life was filled with dreams and ambitions.
She said her family would never recover from the loss and that no prison sentence could undo the pain they had experienced.
The family wanted the court to understand the lifelong consequences of losing someone so young.
Brother remembers Shaan's kindness
Shaan's brother, Mohammed Sohail, also shared an emotional statement about the impact of the tragedy on his family.
He explained that one of the hardest parts of losing his brother was having to speak about him in the past tense.
Sohail said people still approach him to share memories of Shaan's kindness and generosity.
He described how those encounters bring both comfort and sadness, reminding the family of the positive impact Shaan had on others.
The family also thanked the police officers involved in the investigation, the Crown Prosecution Service, barrister Mr Dunn, Judge Singh and the jury for their work throughout the case.
Police condemn dangerous driving
Detective Inspector Paul Conroy, of West Yorkshire Police's Major Collision Enquiry Team, welcomed the sentence.
He said Batool's dangerous driving had caused the death of a young man and left his family facing a lifetime of grief.
The detective warned motorists about the responsibility that comes with driving, particularly when operating powerful, high-performance vehicles.
He emphasised that Batool's actions endangered not only herself and her passenger but also other road users travelling on the motorway.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the potentially devastating consequences of excessive speed and dangerous driving.
