A Keighley man who smashed a car window with a hammer and punched the driver has been spared a jail.
Bradford Crown Court heard on Wednesday that 50-year-old Graham Miller attacked Gareth Bellamy, knocking out his tooth and biting him after “ongoing issues” between them.
Miller had 14 previous convictions for 24 offences, including assaulting a police officer, damage and affray, however, had not committed any offence since 2006.
Speaking on Miller’s character, his barrister Clare Walsh said: “He is a very different man from the one that carried out these offences.”
Mrs Walsh explained how Miller was “pushed too far” after a background of harassment.
Speaking on the case Judge David Hatton QC said: “There were clearly ongoing issues, but it was quite wrong to take the law into your own hands in the way that you did and in the manner that you did.”
Miller sentenced Miller to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with a rehabilitation activity requirement with the probation service.
