An image of a woman calmly smiling and staring down an English Defence League (EDL) activist at a rally in Birmingham has gone viral.
Saffiyah Khan attended the protest to show her support for those who the far-right EDL discriminate against. In the image the one-time Yorkshire regional organiser for the EDL, Ian Crossland, is held back by a police officer as he holds an aggressive stance towards a contrastingly bemused Khan, grinning and with her hands in her pockets.
The image has been circulated across social media and is being heralded as an emblem of peaceful resistance.
