An elderly woman was the victim of a hammer attack in Cleckheaton.
Kirklees CID would like to speak to any witnesses regarding the serious assault on the Spen Valley Greenway at around 2.20pm on Monday, 8 May.
The 76-year-old was approached from behind while walking onto the Greenway after passing the Tesco Supermarket.
She was struck to the back of the head with a hammer by the suspect who then made off with her purse.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury and remained there overnight. The injury is not described as life threatening.
The suspect is described as a white man, of slim-build and aged around 60. He was wearing a woolly bobble hat and glasses.
Police would like to speak with anyone who may have seen the man.
