West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) is supporting The National Police Chiefs’ Council’s (NPCC) Counter Terrorism Awareness Week 2016 which takes place from today.
Fire Services across the UK will also be supporting the event alongside Police forces, Health trusts and other partners.
The aim is that emergency services can assist in raising awareness, both with their own staff and members of the public, of what to do in the event of a terrorist attack.
Chief Fire Officer Simon Pilling said: “We feel it’s important that West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service supports the Counter Terrorism Awareness Week alongside our police colleagues and other partners.”
“We will use this opportunity to re-issue our workforce and the wider public with practical advice about how to stay safe during a terrorist attack.”
“We will also give advice about general personal security including how to stay safe online.”
The week also aims to improve awareness of the current threat from terrorism, the Government’s strategy to protect UK citizens and how it is prepared to respond to acts of terrorism.
The threat level from international terrorism to the UK remains at ‘SEVERE’ which means an attack is highly likely. The Police remind us to remain ‘Alert’ but not ‘Alarmed’ and we should be vigilant at all times.
