Fire Service chiefs are concerned following a recent string of blazes involving derelict or unoccupied buildings across the Kirklees district.
The latest fire, at Newsome Mills in Huddersfield, has prompted fresh warnings.
At 04.36 hrs yesterday (November 17) the Control Room received a call to Newsome Mills, Ruth Street, Newsome, Huddersfield.
On arrival at the scene the building was 100 per cent involved. In total 20 fire engines were sent with around 100 firefighters and supporting officers involved in tackling the blaze.
Police are treating the fire at Newsome Mills as a suspected arson incident.
This fire is the latest in a recent spate of similar blazes in unoccupied or derelict buildings, including a substantial number of fires at the old Kirklees College building in New North Road.
Area Manager Ian Bitcon said: “We are working with our Police colleagues but at the moment we cannot identify a link between these fires.
“However we are particularly aware, not only of the danger large fires present to the public and our firefighters who deal with them, but also the Fire Service resources being devoted to these protracted incidents.”
“We would like the owners of these types of unoccupied buildings to take every precaution to prevent a fire in their property, specifically making the building as secure as possible and keeping a regular eye on it.”
