The organisers of this year’s Bradford City Runs are putting in place their final preparations for the event which takes place on Sunday.
Bradford City Runs, organised by Bradford Council in conjunction with the Bradford Athletics Network, is once again raising funds for the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit based at the University of Bradford, which was set up in the wake of the Bradford City fire disaster 31 years ago.
The Bradford City Runs is Bradford’s Annual Festival of Running and has a unique choice of three distances: a 5K, a 10K and Half Marathon along with a special one mile Kids' Run, all on closed roads in and around Bradford city centre.
This year sees a new and improved route for the event, which now takes in parts of the architectural gem that is Little Germany and the Broadway Shopping Centre, as well as the University of Bradford, Bradford College, Grade 1 listed Bradford City Hall and the multi-award-winning City Park.
Also returning this year will be the free kids play zone with a spider tower, bungee trampolines and giant games all provided by Bradford Council.
Bradford Council is reminding residents and visitors that some roads will be need to be closed and diversions put in place in and around Bradford city centre for part of the day to protect those taking part. The council has written to businesses and residents along the route to help them plan ahead.
Runners and spectators are also being reminded that the clocks go back in the early hours of Sunday morning, so people can have an extra hour in bed before the race.
Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Sport and Leisure, said:
"We’ve got hundreds of runners taking part in this year’s Bradford City Runs event which means we will need to close some roads. We have already written to nearby residents and businesses to let them know which roads will be closed and for what time period.”
"We apologise for any inconvenience but this is unavoidable."
