Police in Batley and Spen are appealing for information following an assault on an elderly man in Liversedge.
The incident happened on 31 January between 4.45pm and 5.00pm on the Greenway in Liversedge, near to Wormald Street and Melbourne Street.
The victim, a 74-year-old male, was walking along the Greenway with his dog when two males on bicycles approached in the opposite direction and a verbal altercation took place.
The victim started to walk off when they grabbed him from behind, pushed him to the floor and repeatedly kicked him before fleeing the scene on their bikes.
The victim suffered broken ribs as a result of the incident. He went to hospital but has since been discharged and is recovering at home.
Inspector Dorian James, of Batley and Spen NPT, said: “This was an incredibly distressing incident for the gentleman involved. He is now recovering at home from his injuries.
“Since the incident, officers have conducted house-to-house enquiries as well as examining CCTV in and around the area. This is being treated as a serious incident and my colleagues from CID are investigating the matter to identify the perpetrators.
“I would like to encourage members of the public who were in that area on the day of the incident to come forward to the police with any information which may assist with our enquiries. I know there will be someone in the local community who has key information that will help us find those responsible.”
