Bradford district’s Warm Homes Healthy People partnership (WHHP) is launching this year’s campaign to reduce the impact of cold weather on the most vulnerable in our society this winter.
It will target those who are at serious risk of becoming ill in the colder months by providing help and advice around keeping warm, healthy eating, tackling fuel poverty and preventing social isolation.
The Warm Homes Healthy People programme is a partnership of voluntary and charitable sector organisations and Bradford Council which aims to deliver support across the district. These include Age UK, BEAT, Bradford CAB, Bradford CAN, Carers Resource, Groundwork, HALE, Inn Churches and Inspired Neighbourhoods.
Cllr Val Slater, Deputy leader and portfolio holder for Health and Wellbeing, said:
“It’s not just about the elderly and the frail who are vulnerable in cold weather. It can also affect people with certain medical conditions, those with young children, the homeless and families who are fuel poor.”
“There are hundreds of people across the district who are at risk from the cold weather and the Warm Homes Healthy People programme will prevent some people from getting seriously ill, or worse, as a result of the winter weather.”
“We’d also urge people to get involved in the Warm Homes Healthy People programme whether you’re looking to support your local community or someone looking for help and assistance.”
Throughout the cold weather, it’s important everyone looks after themselves by keeping warm, active and eating well. Look out for friends, family and neighbours who may be vulnerable to the cold and ensure they have access to warm food and drinks and are managing to heat their homes adequately.
