An investigation has been launched and the deputy chairman of the Bradford Conservative Association has been suspended following allegations that he made anti-Semitic remarks and endorsed clam politics in a speech.
The allegations arose from a speech by Abdul Zaman to start the campaign for the Conservative candidate in the Heaton ward in the forthcoming Council elections in Bradford, Sajid Akhtar.
Bradford West Labour MP Naz Shah has also reportedly written to the Prime Minister David Cameron to complain.
Barry Whitaker, chairman of the Bradford Conservative Association, told reporters he had notified Conservative Central Office and added: "I have suspended Abdul Zaman pending an inquiry into what he said and what he meant by what he said.”
Councillor Simon Cooke, leader of the Conservative group on Bradford Council, told reporters "We take allegations of this sort very seriously.”
