Almost £10,000 in cash confiscated by police in Bradford has been forfeited to the courts which will now be used for various different community projects.
The sum of £9,455 was originally seized while officers were investigating a suspected drugs deal in the city.
The Bradford Proceeds of Crime Team reviewed the case and the cash was re-seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act, as it was believed to have been gained from the supply of illegal drugs.
This week Leeds Magistrates Court granted a forfeiture order for the full amount.
Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson, said ”This is fantastic work from West Yorkshire Police and the courts and sends a clear message to other criminals looking for an easy pay day at the expense of our communities. Some of this recovered money will now go towards Safer Communities Fund, which puts proceeds of crime back into our communities to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, reduce re-offending, and provide support to victims.”
