The incident happened on 10 October at around 1am at a petrol station on Walkley Lane.
Four male suspects pulled up at the petrol station in two separate vehicles and attempted to force the cash machine from the wall by attaching a hook to the machine and connecting it to a 4 x 4 vehicle.
The car was then driven off at speed in order to pull the machine from the wall.
The suspects were disturbed and fled the scene into Heckmondwike town centre.
