A burglar who broke into a pensioner’s home and attempted to steal a safe have been jailed for three years.
24-year-old Bradley Robertshaw appeared for sentence at Bradford Crown Court yesterday via video link from Her Majesty’s Prison Leeds, where he is serving a sentence of eight years and nine months for a second burglary whereby he and a second man threatened a homeowner with a sword.
The most recent incident occurred when Robertshaw and an accomplice forced their way into the pensioner’s address in Crown Drive, Wyke, Bradford, in the early hours of 14 January this year.
The court heard the elderly man, who lived alone and was suffering from ill health, was disturbed when the intruders broke into his property through the patio doors.
The intruders attempted to steal a safe containing cash from his wardrobe, although they abandoned their efforts when a neighbour was alerted.
Robertshaw was sentenced to three years in prison for the attempted burglary, with the most recent sentence to run concurrently with his existing eight year and nine-month sentence.
