West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) is issuing safety advice after a Bradford woman suffered serious burns when her traditional shalwar kameez caught fire whilst cooking.
The incident occurred on 29 May at 14:25 in Bradford, when a woman was cooking food for her small children and her clothing caught fire, causing her to sustain very serious burns.
She remains in hospital and is receiving specialist care for her injuries.
The fire service has said in a statement: “it is essential that people always take extra care when cooking in their home and particularly at times when they are tired or fatigued.”
They added: “Ramadan is a time of great importance for Muslims but it is also a time in which everyone should be extra vigilant when cooking, especially if they’re feeling tired or fatigued by the end of a full day of fasting.”
