A Bradford student has been jailed following a high-speed pursuit where the front wheel of the vehicle he was driving fell off.
Uwais Nawaz, 18, sped away from police in a Fiat Punto on Thornton Road at 12.15am on 7 April. He was not licensed or insured to drive the vehicle.
Bradford Crown court heard how Nawaz turned the car’s lights off in a bid to evade officers but crashed into a kerb, causing a front wheel to fall off. He left on foot and was later arrested after leaving his provisional driving licence in the car.
Nawaz was sent to a young offender institution for four months and banned from driving for 26 months.
