The race will begin on the Headrow in Leeds city centre, where riders will complete a partial loop before heading towards the city's north-western suburbs.

The route includes:

  • Leeds city centre: The Headrow, Boar Lane, Infirmary Street and Westgate.

  • Headingley: Woodhouse Lane, Hyde Park Corner, Otley Road, North Lane and Kirkstall Lane.

  • Kirkstall: Bridge Road, crossing the River Aire.

  • Bramley: Broad Lane, Waterloo Lane, Lower Town Street and Henconner Lane.

  • Farnley: Butt Lane, between Pudsey Road near Farnley Reservoir and Tong Road.

  • New Farnley to Drighlington: Whitehall Road, from its junction with Back Lane.

From Drighlington, the cyclists will enter Kirklees before continuing over the Pennines towards Manchester.

Road closures and travel arrangements

Leeds City Council has confirmed it will work alongside race organisers to keep residents and businesses informed about the arrangements for the event.

Temporary road closures and traffic management measures will be required to allow the race to take place safely.

Properties along and near the route will receive information letters, while an online engagement session is also planned.

Further information about road closures and travel disruption will be provided as preparations progress.

Historic first for Leeds

The 2027 event will make Leeds the first location outside mainland Europe to host the opening stage of both the men's Tour de France and the women's Tour de France Femmes.

The city previously hosted the men's Grand Départ in 2014.

On that occasion, approximately 230,000 spectators gathered in Leeds city centre, with a further two million lining the race route across Yorkshire.

Organisers will be hoping the women's race generates similar enthusiasm and provides another major boost to the city's profile.

Council leader welcomes announcement

Councillor James Lewis, leader of Leeds City Council, described the forthcoming race as a significant opportunity for the city.

He said:

"The Grand Départ of the 2027 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift promises to be a great occasion for Leeds and one that will raise our profile on the international sporting stage while also delivering a boost to the local economy."

He added that extensive planning was already taking place and that residents and businesses would be kept informed about arrangements for the day.

Councillor Lewis also praised the city's enthusiasm for major sporting occasions and said he expected another strong turnout.
