A man has been jailed for ten months for raiding the home of a retired police officer
Attending Bradford Crown Court yesterday, it was heard that Thomas Saville, 25, of Elm Grove, Keigley was one of a gang who threw a brick through the window at the address in Cottingley before ransacking the property on March 27 this year.
Among the possessions stolen was hundreds of pounds worth of jewellery, as well as a Queen’s Jubilee Medal and miniature police helmet that was gifted to the officer upon his retirement.
This was the second time the retired officer had been burgled in the past 18 months, and was left devastated that the items stolen had not been recovered.
The court heard that among Saville’s previous convictions, was a previous house burglary he committed when he was 11 years old, with his barrister, Stephen Wood, emphasising burgling houses was not a regular occurrence for him.
Saville was jailed for 10 months by Recorder Jeremy Hill-Baker for raiding the home of a retired police officer and stealing items of great sentimental value.
